AC-3 Signature
A State of the Art Power Cord
We have been working for the past two years trying to develop a power cord better than our AC-2 MK II.; (no easy task to improve over the AC-2 MK II !) After concentrated research and scores of prototypes tested, we have developed a power cord that exceeds the performance of the AC-2 MK II. Quite an achievement when you consider that many knowledgeable people around the world consider the moderately priced AC-2 MK II to be as good as any power cord, and in many instances, better than those among the “best.” With the AC-3 Signature, we had to be certain that a new cord would have to excel in all areas of performance: clarity, focus, dynamics, inner detail, harmonic accuracy and of course, it must be musical. After this period of time (and some mid-night oil,) we did it!! We have gone all out to make
this cable to be the state of the art equaled by no other power cord.
The copper used in this cable is Single Crystal Continuous Cast Copper. It has unique physical and chemical properties, such as considerably longer granules with absolute absence of gaseous impurities such as oxygen, carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen. It is free from impurities (up to 99.99998% pure copper). It is far better than continuous cast Oxygen Free High Conductivity wire (OFHC). Our Silverfuse production process is also repeated here and enhanced with Deep Emersion Cryogenic Processing. All of these features make the pure SCCC/Silverfuse Premium copper the state-of-the art conductor material for this cable. We have named these conductors Silverfuse Premium; a step above our regular Silverfuse conductors used in most of our other cables. This cable will carry in excess of 30 amps of current!
The connectors, we are using are made by Oyaide. These are fast becoming the most desirable and lauded power cord connectors in the world; and which are also among the most expensive. Available in North American connectors or the European Schuko. After purchase we have the connectors cryogenically processed. We have found that through comparison against other top connectors, we like the Oyaide best and it has the best synergy with our new power cord.
Additionally, we use PTFE Teflon in most all of our cables; however, the insulation we are using for this new cable, while it is purchased as PTFE Teflon, we are modifying it during the wire manufacturing process. Again, a little more costly. Our modification to the PTFE Teflon insulation allows for substantial reduction of the signal discharge back into the metal conductor. Explanation: All insulations covering a metal wire will absorb a portion of the signal as it flows through the metal wire. That signal will discharge back into the metal wire, although it is delayed by a small fraction of time. This discharge back smears the real time current wave form that is passing through resulting in small but discernable distortion.
There are additional design and construction improvements; two of which concern the weaving geometry. We are now using a planetary cabler for this step. This weaving machine, which allows engineers more freedom in designing more complex and more effective weaving geometries, also produces a much more accurate and consistent weaving geometry. Accuracy and consistency from foot to foot is essential to replicate and realize the benefits of the theoretical “on paper” design. The process is much more labor intensive, primarily in the set up for the production run, and in monitoring during the run. Consequently, it is more expensive to produce. Along with the improved weaving geometry, there are multiple layers of shielding material providing for the equivalant of 260% shielding coverage. This provides for very effective isolation of the conductors and elimination of RF, EMI and other "Garbage" disturbances that your house wiring and power company has picked up along the way; Ultimately providing for a "dead quiet" back ground to further enhance the performance.
After all steps in its construction are completed the wire is also subjected to Deep Cryogenic Processing.
EXPLANATION OF OUR PROPRIETARY SILVERFUSE CONDUCTOR MATERIAL: Silverfuse is a near alloy of silver and copper. The copper used in this process is Single Crystal Continuous Cast Copper. IT IS NOT SILVER PLATED. Silver plating causes a dioding effect when signal is passed through resulting in brightness and distortion. Because silver plating has a bad reputation, some manufacturers try to disguise the fact by calling it silver coated, silver clad or silver/copper hybrid. But they are all silver plated. Our Silverfuse process starts with Single Crystal Continuous Cast Copper wire with a diameter that is slightly larger than the required size. It is then pulled through a trough of molten silver. The wire with a silver deposit is then forced through a compacting process where it is subject to tremendous pressure. The silver and the copper are fused together into a near alloy. The compacting fusion also reduces the wire diameter to the desired size. No dioding subsequently occurs with this process. The result provides for the benefits of silver; which are excellent definition and clarity, with the high purity copper benefits of warmth and mellowness. (Incidentally, pure silver wire also causes brightness)
Please note that we have available power cords as short as 1.5 meters (4.92 ft.). However, any length shorter than 1.8 meters (5.9 feet) will begin to degrade the effectiveness of the shielding and filtering capabilities; regardless of who is the manufacturer. Power cords are not like speaker cable and interconnects where shorter is better.
